Drawing Winston!

Winston poses under the easel!

If you follow me on social media, then you might be aware I have a gorgeous black Labrador named Winston! He’s a massive softy and has totally taken over our lives in all the best ways!

He will be a year old in a couple of days (I honestly don’t know where the time is going), so I wanted to finally do a pet portrait of him! As it’s been something I’ve been wanting to do since the moment I first saw him 🖤

I have been compiling photos for months, trying to find the best one for his portrait. My goodness, it’s so hard to decide - I now know what I put all of you through when asking for the ‘perfect’ photo for your portrait. One which sums up their personality and looks, as well as that lovely expression they have which screams your pet to you! Well, I have to say - I struggled to find the ‘right’ one! But then one day he pulled that exact face, the one I love so much and I managed to capture it on my phone - absolute elation!

I drew out the outline for his portrait and I just sat there smiling at it - there was Winston! I think I understand on a totally new level the emotions you go through when you receive progress photos of your portraits - I was really emotional as I started to put in the layers and saw his face coming out of the page at me. When his eyes went in I just smiled more, there he was.

Winston joined me in the studio for most of the process and it was so funny having him appear under my desk for a cuddle, or to bring me a toy he wanted to play with while I was staring at his face on the desk!

I’m totally in love with his finished portrait, I think it’s my favourite portrait ever because it’s my boy! (Although that praise should probably be reserved for the portrait I drew of my daughter 😂 let’s hope she doesn’t read this!).

I’d love to hear what you think of his portrait! Isn’t the photo of him sat under the desk just adorable 🖤
