My Story
In 2020, I took the plunge and did something I’d been wanting to do forever - made my passion my career and launched this business as my full time career! I’d been planning this for a while, it just so happened the date I had planned for happened to be in the middle of a pandemic.
My love of art started from a young age, I entered a county primary school collage competition to create the best collage made out of torn up newspaper pages and I won! The prize was a life size cutout of Aladdin (I loved it - my Mother did not!), but in that moment I realised I was a creative person and a love of art was born.
Throughout school I loved (and like to think I excelled) in art, though due to personal circumstances I did not take it through to art school. Instead I spent over a decade working in creative marketing and graphic design roles while drawing and painting as much as I could in my spare time. Friends would ask me to do pet portraits for them and I knew this was something I wanted to pursue full time. After the birth of my second child, I took the plunge and Felicity Franks Portraits was born!
I work from a studio at my home in Somerset creating artwork in soft pastels.
When I launched this business, my main focus was on pet portraits. I then expanded my subjects to wildlife and started to experiment with adding backgrounds too. With several years of drawing pets as a professional artist I decided to share everything I have learnt about using soft pastels along my art journey.
Learn with me
I didn’t attend art school, I have learnt through trial and error and from other artists along the way through books and videos. I have experimented with my style and figured out what works best and now I am teaching this to others! There is a library of available tutorials here.
If you would like to commission a pet portrait
I am still drawing pet portraits, though I am not taking on as many as I used to. My books are currently closed for commissions, please do email to join my waitlist if you would like to be notified when a space opens up again.
I really hope I can work with you to create something amazing, either through a commissioned drawing, or through helping you on your art journey!
Thank you for having a look through my website (and reading this far)!
